Lawyer in youth protection and youth law
Me Younes Ameur practises primarily in youth law, with a practice particularly devoted to files arising under the Youth Protection Act (YPA) and to interventions by the Director of Youth Protection (DYP).
Co-founder of Ameur & Múrias, he represents his clients before the Youth Division of the Court of Québec in files where the human and legal stakes are often considerable. His practice has led him to act in complex youth protection files, both at first instance and on appeal.
Me Ameur has significant experience in matters involving the compromising of a child's security or development, protective measures, placement, parental rights and the various remedies available under the YPA. His approach seeks to combine a rigorous defence of his clients' rights with a concrete understanding of how the youth protection system actually operates.
His expertise also serves the profession. Me Ameur is a member of the Barreau du Québec's Youth Law Expert Group, where he contributes to the Bar's reflections on legislative developments and issues affecting justice for children and adolescents.
He also sits on the Bar of Montreal's Liaison Committee with the Court of Québec, Youth Division, which brings together representatives of the judiciary, private practice, legal aid, the DYP and other justice system actors in order to help improve the services provided to children, adolescents and parents.
Me Ameur is further called upon to share his experience with other legal professionals, notably through training and reflection activities on youth protection and youth justice.
His practice has taken him before the various Québec courts. He also has experience in criminal law and in appellate matters.
A law graduate of the University of Ottawa with distinction, Me Ameur has been a member of the Barreau du Québec since 2013.
He represents his clients in French, English and Arabic, and accepts legal aid mandates.
In a field where judicial decisions can have profound and lasting consequences on the life of a child and their family, Me Ameur favours attentive, strategic and rigorous representation, tailored to the particularities of each file.
